PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Temitope Obama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derick Sprole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sprole has chosen Youre Gonna Go Far, Kid as his entrance music. Derick Sprole is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Temitope Obama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Derick Sprole!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sprole drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Sprole lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Obama down.
An elbow from Sprole crashes against the mat.
Sprole throws a strike aimed at the side of Obama's head but Obama avoids it well.

Obama really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Obama takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Obama looks to move to half guard but instead Sprole has passed into mount! Damn!
Sprole is landing with some decent strikes but Obama is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Obama tries to buck Sprole off but he can't manage it.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Obama is covering up but some of the strikes from Sprole are getting through and doing damage.

Sprole lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Obama.
The referee is taking a good look at Obama as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Sprole!

Oh Obama is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sprole is working the ground and pound. Can Obama escape?

Sprole doesn't have the hooks in and Obama manages to turn into his guard.

Obama seems to have got his legs back now.
Obama stops Sprole from standing up.
Sprole utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Obama wants to stand but Sprole is controlling his posture from full guard.
Sprole is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Obama is controlling him.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Obama is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sprole sees it coming and defends easily.

Obama ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Obama shoots in looking for a takedown but Sprole manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Obama's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sprole tries to clinch there but Obama circles away.
Obama closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Obama throws a head kick but Sprole moves out of range.
Sprole tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Obama manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sprole tries to kick Obama off in order to stand up. Obama Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Obama is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sprole knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Sprole is trying to control Obama's posture but Obama avoids it.
Temitope Obama has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
A bit of a lull in the action here.
Obama will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Derick Sprole is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Obama wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Temitope Obama showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Sprole has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
