PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Grant Klum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rogers has chosen I Am A Real American as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Grant Klum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Steve Rogers!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rogers gets a takedown into half guard.

Rogers misses with a hook to the ribs.

Rogers breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rogers tries to close the distance and clinch but Klum swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A head kick misses from Rogers.
Klum looks for a takedown but Rogers sprawls well.
Rogers throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

A big head kick from Rogers and Klum is sent sprawling to the canvas!
Rogers pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Klum is keeping the position for now.
Rogers not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Steve Rogers has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Klum throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Klum pulls out of a head kick attempt.
No joy there for Rogers, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Klum shoots in but no luck this time.
Rogers keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Rogers moves into the clinch successfully.
Rogers lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Rogers works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Rogers throws a head punch that misses.
Rogers misses with a punch on the inside.
Rogers lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Rogers breaks from the clinch.
Rogers tries a head kick but it misses.

Rogers fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Klum manages to avoid it.
Klum throws a series of punches but Rogers moves out of range.

Rogers closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rogers tries for a takedown. No joy.
Klum blocking some punches.
Rogers effectively controlling the action here.
Rogers stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Klum wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rogers lands a shot to the body.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Rogers misses with a hook to the ribs.
Rogers lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Rogers lands a right hand that snaps the head of Klum backwards.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Rogers dominated that round.

Rogers tries a head kick but it misses.
Klum has a takedown stuffed.
Rogers throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Klum circles away from the clinch attempt.
Klum shoots in for a double leg but Rogers sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Rogers bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Klum is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Rogers creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rogers advances to mount.
Rogers unloads with some shots from mount but Klum bucks and avoids them well.
Klum suckers Rogers into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Klum is now in Rogers's guard!

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Klum stopping the sweep attempt from Rogers.
Klum wants to stand but Rogers is controlling his posture from full guard.

Rogers pushes Klum off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Rogers tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Klum was well out of range. Poor timing from Rogers.
Rogers lands with a slapping head kick.
Rogers tries to close the distance and clinch but Klum swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Klum is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rogers sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rogers lands a right hand that snaps the head of Klum backwards.
Rogers lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Klum wants to break the clinch but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Rogers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Rogers gets a clinch.
Klum wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rogers goes for a takedown attempt but Klum pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Klum tries to bum rush Rogers with a series of wild strikes but Rogers uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Rogers tries to close the distance and clinch up but Klum swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Klum shoots in but Rogers avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Klum throws a low kick but Rogers avoids it.
Klum throws a head kick that misses

and Rogers counters with a head kick that drops Klum!


Klum is rocked!


It looks like Grant Klum has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rogers wants to control from the top but Klum keeps moving.
Rogers has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rogers missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rogers stands up from Klum's guard - Rogers perhaps looking for a knockout.

Rogers lands a left and a right that sends Klum crashing to the canvas! Rogers dives into mount looking to finish!
Oh Klum is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rogers postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Klum badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Rogers around the waist but Rogers pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Rogers is the winner by TKO! Rogers jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Steve Rogers!
