PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mark Dunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitsuyo Maeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dunn comes into the arena with Diary of a Madman blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Dunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mitsuyo Maeda!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Dunn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Maeda defending well as Dunn loads up on a big left hand.
Dunn stuffs the takedown attempt from Maeda. Maeda gets slowly back to his feet.
Dunn misses with a body shot.
Maeda on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Dunn misses with a hook.
Nice takedown defense from Dunn. No joy for Maeda on that attempt.
Maeda fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mark Dunn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mitsuyo Maeda.
Dunn cracks Maeda with a right hand to the side of the head.
Maeda shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dunn as he jumps to the side.

Maeda shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Dunn manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Maeda working some strikes from top position.
Maeda postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Dunn is trying to control the position but Maeda postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maeda with a nice head shot there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dunn lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Maeda!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maeda is looking to improve his position but Dunn isn't that keen on the idea.
Maeda regains half guard.
Maeda is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Dunn winds up and cracks Maeda with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Maeda is pressing down on Dunn's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Dunn connects with a couple of short punches.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Dunn slips nicely into half guard.
Dunn throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Maeda wants to improve his position but Dunn is controlling well.
Dunn working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maeda keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dunn prevents Maeda from improving his position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Dunn lands a nice short elbow.
Dunn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Maeda tries to get to full guard but Dunn has control of the leg.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Dunn is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Maeda has managed to free his arm - good work.
Maeda makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Maeda.
Dunn with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Dunn lands a couple of digs.
Dunn scoring with punches to the head and body.
Maeda looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maeda is still trying to improve position.
Maeda keeping moving, preventing Dunn from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Maeda being controlled here, momentarily.
Dunn lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Dunn stopping the sweep attempt from Maeda.
Dunn makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Maeda has momentary wrist control but Dunn slips an elbow through the middle.
Maeda looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Dunn passes Maeda's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Dunn is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Maeda is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Mark Dunn!
Mark Dunn decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
