Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nikola Veljanovski!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Veljanovski closes the distance and clinches.
Lupan misses with a short punch on the inside.

Veljanovski has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Lupan is trying to keep an underhook but Veljanovski manages to get the takedown into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Veljanovski cracks Lupan with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Lupan is trying desperately to improve position.
Lupan is working hard here to advance position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lupan sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Lupan tries to get to full guard but Veljanovski has control of the leg.
Veljanovski is trying to control the action in half guard but Lupan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Veljanovski might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lupan haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Lupan tries to roll over but Veljanovski keeps him under control.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Nikola Veljanovski hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Lupan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Veljanovski counters by moving into the clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Lupan fails to land.
Lupan is looking for a takedown.

Veljanovski ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Veljanovski no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Lupan passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Veljanovski is trying to control Lupan's posture but Lupan avoids it.

Lupan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Veljanovski knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Veljanovski stops Lupan from passing to mount.
Veljanovski manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Lupan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Veljanovski does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lupan is working for a submission of some sort.
Lupan is just content to waste time from the top position. Veljanovski takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Lupan postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Veljanovski is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Lupan, into his guard.

Lupan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Veljanovski gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Lupan is trying to improve his position.
Veljanovski wants to control but Lupan is keeping him busy.
Veljanovski tries to advance to mount but can't.

Veljanovski is looking to take a break and control but Lupan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Lupan is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lupan is looking to control Veljanovski's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lupan avoid being mounted?
Lupan wants to get back to full guard but Veljanovski has passed into side control.
Lupan can't do much from the bottom here.
Veljanovski happy to just control the position for now.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lupan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Veljanovski wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

You can see the frustration on Lupan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Lupan takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lupan tries to buck Veljanovski off but Veljanovski is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Nikola Veljanovski.
Well Veljanovski has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
