PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ron James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oliver Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James comes to the cage accompanied by Kid rock - Cowboy. Reed has chosen Jean Baptiste Lully - Marche Royale as his entrance music. Oliver Reed acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ron James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Oliver Reed!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
James changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Reed tries to avoid it but James manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Reed to the ground. Reed escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Reed walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
James blocks the body kick.
Reed misses with an attempted mid kick.
Reed blocks a jab.
A leg kick checked by James.
A shot to the liver by James. Beautiful body shot.
Reed swings for the body but James moves out of range.
Reed takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from James lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Reed has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Reed and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

James darts in and clinches Reed up against the cage.

Reed misses with a punch to the body.
Reed working aggressively here.
Reed lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Reed scores with a shoulder strike.


It looks like Ron James has been cut.

James throws a punch but it's blocked by Reed.
James is struggling to control the position.

Reed pushes James back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Reed tried to land a shot to the body but connects with James's elbow.

James turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and James manages to end up in side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Reed regains half guard there - taking advantage of James's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Reed preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
James seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Reed is pressing down on James's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

James has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Oliver Reed was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Reed throws a solid leg kick but James takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Reed.
Reed ducks down and throws a hook to the body but James moves away.
Reed turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
James changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Reed tries to avoid it but James manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Reed to the ground. Reed escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Oliver Reed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Reed paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Reed keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Reed fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but James is out of range.

James connects with a looping right hand.
Reed ducks under a wild hook from James.
James misses the jab.
The fighters circling - James throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Reed fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and James has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

and James counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Reed's guard now.
James slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

James wants to control from the top but Reed keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ron James will probably get the nod.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Reed tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
James throws a nice inside leg kick.

Reed fakes a jab and throws a low kick but James checks it well.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Oliver Reed is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
James throws a push kick but Reed slaps the foot to one side.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Reed is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
James jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Reed misses with a low kick.
James misses the shot to the body.
Reed cracks the inside of James's front leg.
Reed throws a quick inside leg kick.
James moves out of range as Reed throws a body kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Reed.
Reed thuds his right hand into James's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
James is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Reed pivots, looking for a leg kick but James is out of range and Reed settles back down.
James misses with a jab to the body
and Reed makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

James throws a looping overhand right but Reed ducks down to avoid it.
James shoots in but no luck this time.
James uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Reed.

James closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Reed misses with some punches.
Reed is working James over against the cage.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Reed tried to land a shot to the body but connects with James's elbow.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James takes a shot to the head.
Reed lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
James's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

A close second round but Oliver Reed will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Reed throws a chopping leg kick but James manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
James on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Reed throws a sloppy head kick and James moves out of range easily.
Reed throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Reed does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

James looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

James is looking to advance position but Reed won't allow it.
Reed works his way to full guard. Good work.

Reed wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and James is now in half guard.
Reed won't allow James to pass to mount.
Ron James overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
James passes into side control, despite Reed's attempt to control the position.
Reed can't do much from the bottom here.
James has control of an arm but Reed manages to advance to James's back!
James manages to reverse the position and now he's in Reed's guard. Nice work there by James.
Reed utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Oliver Reed hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Reed finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
The crowd cheers as Reed lands an impressive looking overhand right. James doesn't seem phased though.

James has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Reed.
James missing with a left hand there. Reed was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Reed has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Reed there as he acknowledges the shot.
James lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ron James.
I think James has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
