Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paco Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anzori Gvasalia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez's entrance music is La Puerta Negra. A fine choice. The crowd seem to be enjoying Gvasalia's choice of entrance music: -MATRIX-. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paco Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Anzori Gvasalia!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Gvasalia is out of range.
Mendez has his takedown stuffed

and Gvasalia counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Mendez!
Mendez manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Mendez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gvasalia's head.

Gvasalia pushes Mendez off and gets back to his feet.
Gvasalia wants to clinch.
Mendez throws a hook but Gvasalia avoids it easily.
Gvasalia scores with a body shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mendez tries for a takedown but Gvasalia sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Gvasalia counters with a shoot takedown. Mendez fights it but they end up in guard.

Gvasalia has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mendez is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gvasalia gets to his feet. Mendez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Gvasalia counters with a stiff right hand.

Gvasalia decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mendez, up you get!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mendez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gvasalia sprawls well initially but Mendez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Gvasalia is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gvasalia would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Mendez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mendez controls Gvasalia momentarily but Gvasalia frees himself.
Mendez pulls Gvasalia in close to prevent any damage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Gvasalia dives in and grabs Mendez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mendez pushes down on Gvasalia's head and hops out.
Mendez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gvasalia circles away.
Gvasalia throws a sloppy head kick and Mendez moves out of range easily.
Gvasalia shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mendez as he avoids it easily.

Gvasalia avoids the head kick by Mendez.
Mendez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gvasalia moves away.
Mendez is looking to clinch.
Mendez tries to clinch there but Gvasalia circles away.
Mendez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gvasalia manages to avoid it.

Mendez is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Gvasalia's half guard.

Gvasalia makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gvasalia can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mendez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gvasalia is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Mendez ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Mendez wants to land a leg kick but Gvasalia is out of range.
Mendez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gvasalia manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Mendez leaves Gvasalia with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Mendez is keen to just control but Gvasalia is a slippery customer.
Gvasalia is trying to stand.
Gvasalia takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mendez wants to stand up but Gvasalia has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Mendez is looking to take a break and control but Gvasalia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Mendez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Mendez shoots in looking for a takedown but Gvasalia manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mendez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Mendez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gvasalia manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Gvasalia counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gvasalia got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mendez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gvasalia has managed to get both his arms back between Mendez's legs - danger averted.

Mendez is working an open guard so Gvasalia takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Gvasalia fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mendez avoids it really well and circles away.
Mendez tries to clinch but Gvasalia is having none of it.
Paco Mendez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mendez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Mendez keeps the fight on the outside.
Mendez fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Gvasalia looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Mendez gets in close and tags Gvasalia with a short punch that almost sends Gvasalia to the mat! Oh Gvasalia is in big trouble! He turns his back on Mendez, trying to create some distance but Mendez rushes him, striking wildly and Gvasalia goes down! The referee tackles Mendez into the cage to end the fight! Mendez is one violent man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paco Mendez!
A very excited looking Paco Mendez rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
