PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Heimo Vesa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Martin has chosen Dean Martin - LITTLE OLD WINE DRINKER ME as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Heimo Vesa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Dean Martin!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vesa gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Martin to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Vesa can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Martin controls the pace.
Martin tries to stand but Vesa is controlling from the bottom.

Vesa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Martin defends well.
Martin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Martin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vesa escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Martin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Martin tries to free his leg and advance position but Vesa is retaining full guard.
Vesa is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Martin is stalling in the full guard.

Let's hope that Martin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dean Martin was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Martin gets a takedown into half guard.
Martin is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Vesa tries to get to full guard but Martin has control of the leg.

Martin is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Vesa has managed to free his arm - good work.
Vesa trying to control but Martin postures up.
Martin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Vesa is looking for a sweep. Martin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Martin is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Martin wants to get back to his feet.
Vesa tries to roll over but Martin keeps him under control.
Martin looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Martin is looking for a kimura but Vesa is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Martin to get the leverage.

Martin tries to free his leg and advance position but Vesa is retaining full guard.

Martin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Vesa can't keep his opponent in guard - Martin advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Martin is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Vesa is not content to let Martin control the position.
Vesa has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Martin is working away from the top position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Martin closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Vesa did well to prevent Martin getting side control.

Martin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Vesa doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Martin.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dean Martin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Martin manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Vesa on his heels. He'll look to pass Vesa's guard now, I'm sure.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Vesa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Martin, who protects the arm well.
Martin sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Dean Martin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Martin is nestled in close to Vesa, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Martin thows a huge punch but Vesa dodges it nicely.

Dean Martin is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dean Martin.
Vesa misses with a wild body shot.
Martin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vesa swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Vesa feints a jab promting Martin to slip. Vesa then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Martin slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Martin closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Vesa quickly recovers to half guard.
Martin is controlling the pace.

Dean Martin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Martin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Dean Martin decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
