PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Borden Chantry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Artur Hawkwing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Artur Hawkwing!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A leg kick checked by Hawkwing.
Chantry connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Hawkwing momentarily.
Chantry lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Hawkwing ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Chantry takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
A slapping leg kick lands for Chantry.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Chantry throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Chantry throws a jab but it's blocked by Hawkwing.
Chantry lands a nice looking body shot.
Hawkwing keeps the fight on the outside.
Hawkwing swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Chantry closes the distance and clinches.

Hawkwing has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Chantry is trying to keep an underhook but Hawkwing manages to get the takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hawkwing lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Chantry has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hawkwing is working away from the top position though.
Chantry knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hawkwing on the ground.

Chantry tries to roll over but Hawkwing keeps him under control.

Chantry is trying to control but can't.
Well, if Hawkwing is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Hawkwing takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Hawkwing is nestled in close to Chantry, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chantry wants to improve his position but Hawkwing is controlling well.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Hawkwing landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hawkwing connects with a nice short shot to Chantry's temple.
Chantry pushes Hawkwing off looking to stand but Hawkwing dives back in and keeps control.

Chantry is defending against the submission attempts here by Hawkwing.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hawkwing moves nicely into side control.
Hawkwing wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chantry keeps working.

Chantry looks to move to half guard but instead Hawkwing has passed into mount! Damn!
Hawkwing avoids the attempt from Chantry to control.

Chantry wants to control but Hawkwing is having none of it.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hawkwing breaks from Chantry's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Hawkwing scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Chantry tries to hold on but Hawkwing postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Artur Hawkwing will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Chantry clinches up with Hawkwing and pushes him back against the cage.
Chantry avoiding damage.
Chantry stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Chantry will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Hawkwing up against the cage.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Chantry for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

Hawkwing pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Good exchange - Chantry coming out on top.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Chantry will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Hawkwing up against the cage.
Chantry lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Chantry breaks the clinch.
Hawkwing chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Chantry can pounce on him.
Chantry lands with a shot to the body.
Chantry dips to his left and cracks Hawkwing with an uppercut!
Chantry is throwing a storm of strikes! Right hook, left hook and follows it up with a spinning back fist! Hawkwing hits the canvas like a rag doll! And just like that, this one is over!
