Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Melvin Cronkite (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Glen Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cronkite comes to the cage accompanied by Croc song!. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Melvin Cronkite!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Glen Jacobs!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Paulo Santos and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jacobs scores with a jab. Cronkite acknowledges it with a nod of the head.


It looks like Melvin Cronkite has been cut.
A punch combination from Jacobs misses.

Cronkite shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jacobs is trying to defend but Cronkite finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Cronkite is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cronkite missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Cronkite goes for an armbar but Jacobs turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Jacobs.
Cronkite manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jacobs manages to get himself to full guard.

Cronkite might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jacobs controls Cronkite momentarily but Cronkite frees himself.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Cronkite.
Jacobs tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Cronkite presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jacobs stuffs the takedown.
Jacobs keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Nice shot lands for Jacobs.
Cronkite dives in and grabs Jacobs's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jacobs pushes down on Cronkite's head and hops out.

Jacobs is looking to take a break and control but Cronkite is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jacobs might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cronkite haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Cronkite wants to control but Jacobs is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Cronkite has hold of Jacobs's hands but Jacobs slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Cronkite trying to get back to full guard but Jacobs takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Cronkite sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jacobs controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Jacobs throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cronkite works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Jacobs is pushing down on Cronkite's leg trying to pass to half guard. Cronkite is fighting to maintain full guard but Jacobs has managed to sneak the leg through.
Cronkite wants to control but Jacobs is keeping busy.

Cronkite is looking for a sweep. Jacobs is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jacobs thows a huge punch but Cronkite dodges it nicely.
The fighters are battling for position here. Cronkite manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Glen Jacobs showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Cronkite fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jacobs avoids it really well and circles away.
Cronkite shoots in looking for a takedown but Jacobs manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cronkite's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Melvin Cronkite. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No luck for Jacobs with that takedown attempt.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Melvin Cronkite wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Cronkite uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jacobs.
Cronkite blocks a jab.
Jacobs looks to score with a jab to the body but Cronkite is just out of range.
Cronkite leaves Jacobs with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Jacobs closes the distance and clinches up with Cronkite, looking for a takedown. Jacobs pushes Cronkite against the cage but Cronkite circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Cronkite shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jacobs sprawls well. Jacobs wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cronkite gets slowly back to his feet.
Cronkite throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jacobs's waist but Jacobs gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cronkite off to one side.

Cronkite looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Cronkite is trying to control. Jacobs wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Cronkite wants to pass to mount but Jacobs is defending the position.
Cronkite seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jacobs does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Melvin Cronkite has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Horrible takedown by Jacobs or perhaps it was just good defense by Cronkite which made him look bad.

Cronkite changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jacobs looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

You can see the frustration on Jacobs's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cronkite is looking to take a break and control but Jacobs is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Melvin Cronkite.
I think Cronkite has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
