Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akihiro Shirasu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matt Machida!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Valeri Chadov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shirasu is looking to clinch.
Machida throws a sloppy head kick and Shirasu moves out of range easily.
Machida swinging wildly here.
Machida scores with a one two! Shirasu had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Shirasu drops Machida with a beautiful combination! Machida stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Shirasu is looking for the KO!


It looks like Matt Machida has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Shirasu shoots in and gets a takedown into Machida's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Shirasu looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Shirasu working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shirasu passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Machida is letting Shirasu control him for a moment.
Machida really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shirasu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Akihiro Shirasu wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Machida misses with a few strikes there.

Shirasu shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Shirasu content to control rather than advance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Machida keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Shirasu is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Shirasu's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Akihiro Shirasu.
Shirasu blocks a low kick nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Machida fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Shirasu tries to close the distance and clinch but Machida swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Shirasu blocks a head kick by Machida.
Machida swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Machida with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Shirasu to score with a decent uppercut.

Shirasu is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Machida's half guard.
Machida keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shirasu stops Machida from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akihiro Shirasu dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Matt Machida's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Machida misses with a head kick.
Machida throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shirasu.
A shot to the body from Machida misses

and Shirasu counters with a single leg into guard. Machida didn't expect that.
Shirasu controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shirasu passes Machida's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Shirasu in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Machida tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Shirasu!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Akihiro Shirasu!
A relieved looking Akihiro Shirasu thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
