PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Kovar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alphonse Tchami (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aaron Kovar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alphonse Tchami!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovar throws a sloppy head kick and Tchami moves out of range easily.
Tchami pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Kovar instigates a clinch.

Kovar has Tchami pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kovar pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Tchami tumbling to the mat - Kovar dives into Tchami's guard.
Kovar passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Tchami is letting Kovar control him for a moment.
Kovar's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Kovar has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Kovar forces Tchami back against the cage and clinches.

Kovar tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Tchami smiles and moves away.

Tchami gets tackled into the cage by Kovar. Kovar maintains the clinch.
Tchami gets underhooks to prevent Kovar's takedown attempt.
Kovar tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Kovar jumps guard but Tchami turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aaron Kovar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tchami lands a nice knee to the body.
Tchami is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Kovar is keeping busy.
Tchami is persisting with his attempts to control the action in the clinch, rather than do any real damage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Kovar looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Kovar pulls Tchami into guard.
Kovar looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tchami is one step ahead there.

Kovar shoots in and drives through. Tchami sprawls well.
Tchami tries to close the distance and clinch but Kovar swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tchami uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kovar.
Aaron Kovar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A big right from Kovar misses.
Tchami walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Kovar checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Tchami throws a nice inside leg kick.
Aaron Kovar is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kovar tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tchami sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kovar somewhat.
A combination from Tchami does no damage.
Kovar shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Tchami stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tchami wants it to stay on the feet.
Tchami tries to clinch there but Kovar circles away.

Kovar closes the distance and pushes Tchami back into the cage.
Kovar goes for a takedown in the clinch but Tchami prevents it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kovar pulls guard successfully.
Kovar looking for a sweep. Not yet Kovar, not yet.
Kovar is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Aaron Kovar wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Kovar checks the leg kick nicely there.
Kovar rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tchami moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Kovar clinches.
Kovar is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Tchami gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Kovar tries to break the clinch but Tchami is controlling the position.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Kovar jumps guard but Tchami stands there with Kovar around his waist. Kovar gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Tchami throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Kovar blocks it with crossed arms.
Kovar tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Tchami smiles and moves away.

Kovar shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Tchami's guard.

Kovar seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Kovar slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Kovar has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Aaron Kovar.
Kovar uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Tchami.
Alphonse Tchami is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tchami tries to clinch but Kovar is having none of it.

Kovar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Aaron Kovar wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Tchami missing with a left hand there. Kovar was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Kovar takes the fight into the clinch.

Kovar pulls Tchami into guard.
Kovar tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kovar keeping moving, preventing Tchami from controlling successfully.

Kovar working for submissions but it's allowed Tchami to get to half guard.

Kovar is trying to get back to full guard.
Kovar tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Kovar is looking to get back to full guard here but Tchami has managed to pass to side control instead.
Kovar tries to buck Tchami off but Tchami is having none of it.
Kovar is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Tchami has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Kovar can't do much from the bottom here.

Kovar gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Kovar wants to get back to full guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Aaron Kovar wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Tchami fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kovar manages to avoid it.
Kovar shoots in looking for a takedown but Tchami manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kovar's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kovar.
Kovar fails with a takedown attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Aaron Kovar showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kovar has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
