Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ron James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oliver Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James's entrance music is Kid rock - Cowboy. A fine choice. Reed comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Jean Baptiste Lully - Marche Royale kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 1, fighting out of New York, Ron James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Oliver Reed!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reed clinches up against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Reed lands a hook that snaps the head of James backwards.
James working hard to break the clinch.
Reed lands with a short punch from the clinch.
James fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
James lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Reed tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Reed goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
A nice left hand lands by James.
Reed tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
James has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Reed just misses with a elbow thrown towards James's brow.
Reed misses with the head strike.
Reed misses with a hook to the ribs.
James drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Reed gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Reed throws a head punch that misses.
Reed misses with a punch to the body.
Reed lands with a right to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

James drags the fight down to the ground.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Reed is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Reed must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
James wants to sweep but no luck.
James scores with a nice shot.

James working for a triangle but Reed defends it easily.

James has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Reed can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Reed controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Reed trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Reed is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
This has been an exciting period of action!

James looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Reed trying to stand up but can't free himself from James's guard.

Reed got a little sloppy there for a moment and James has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Reed has managed to get both his arms back between James's legs - danger averted.

Reed decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on James, up you get!
Reed throws a front kick aimed at James's knee but James avoids it well.
Oliver Reed is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Reed swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Reed looks to score with a jab to the body but James is just out of range.
James checks a leg kick.
Reed fakes a jab and throws a low kick but James checks it well.
James scores with a leg kick.
Reed lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Ron James has been cut.
James has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Reed.
James takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Reed misses with a low kick as James jumps back.

A decent looking cross lands there for Reed.
James throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Reed stalks James and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into James's face. James staggers backwards, shaken.
Reed uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before James has time to react.
Reed misses with a low kick.
Reed misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from James.
James tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Reed was well out of range. Poor timing from James.
Nice body punch from James.
James keeps the fight on the outside.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

James moves into the clinch.
Reed blocks a body shot from James.
Reed lands a right hand that snaps the head of James backwards.
Nice body punch from Reed - that landed with a thud.
Reed throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oliver Reed dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ron James's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Reed scores with a leg kick.
James takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Reed tries to close the distance and clinch up but James swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Reed misses the shot to the body.
James misses with a leg kick.
Reed throws a leg kick that is checked

and James counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by James.

Reed has his foot on James's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. James works his way back into a safe position though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Reed wants to stand up but James is controlling him.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Reed holds on and takes a little breather.
James postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Reed is pulling down on James's head. It's preventing any offense from James, at least for the moment.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Reed is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ron James overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Oliver Reed wasn't active enough on the ground.
Reed punishes James's body with a nice straight punch.
Ron James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Reed sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Reed is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down James rather than just go for the knockout.
Reed takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Reed takes a shot to the body in his stride.
James motions for Reed to come forward. James throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Reed tries to clinch but James is having none of it.

James moves out of range as Reed strikes.
Reed misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nice takedown defense from Reed. No joy for James on that attempt.
Reed uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from James.
A looping hook to the body misses from Reed. James does a little dance to reset his feet.
Reed loads up on a big right hand but James slips the punch.
Reed tries to clinch up.
Reed lands with an uppercut that bounces James off the cage and back into range.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A jab from James finds it's way through Reed's defenses.

James throws a wild body kick that Reed sees coming a mile off.
James lands a body shot.
James fails with the takedown.
Reed scores with a shot to the body.
James checks the leg kick nicely there.
Reed shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
James throws a predictable looking body shot
and Reed counters with a leg kick.
Reed has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Reed there as he acknowledges the shot.
Reed throws a jab when James was well out of range.

Reed misses with a series of wild punches.
James scores with a nice head shot.
James fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Reed manages to avoid it.
Reed moves out of range of the body kick from James.
James misses the shot to the body.
Reed does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Reed swings away with a leg kick that misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Reed takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Reed misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from James.
James throws a poor cross that misses
and Reed counters with a slapping leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Oliver Reed will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Ron James's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Reed pulls James in close to prevent any damage.
Reed's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Reed throws a combination but it was largely blocked by James.

Reed takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
James misses with a right hand
and Reed counters with a good low kick that James was not able to check.
James thumps Reed with a low kick.
Reed throws a chopping leg kick but James manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
James circles away from the clinch attempt.

James moves into the clinch.
Reed keeps the fight in the clinch, despite James's efforts to push away.
Reed lands a right hand.
Reed fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Reed doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
James tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Reed seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Oliver Reed seems to be getting the better of the standup.

James drives through with a takedown into Reed's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

James takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Reed uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from James.
James throws a right hand that Reed ducks under and follows up with a left that Reed also avoids with ease.

Reed lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Oliver Reed comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Reed winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
