The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fernandes ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Santan avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Santan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Fernandes is looking for a triangle but Santan pushes his legs off easily.

Santan working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Fernandes's head.
Santan passes Fernandes's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Santan seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santan works his way into side control.
Santan lands a nice forearm strike.
Santan lands some shots froms side control.
Santan lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Fernandes down.
Fernandes prevents Santan from improving position.
Fernandes can't do much from the bottom here.

Santan tries to advance to mount but Fernandes denies him.

Santan advances to full mount.
Santan landing strikes from the mount.
Santan lands a heavy elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Santan lands a big elbow.
The referee warns Fernandes that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Santan postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Fernandes in real trouble here! The ref calls for Fernandes to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
