PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Matthews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackson comes into the arena with Hustlin blaring out of the sound system. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shane Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Max Matthews!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matthews fails with a takedown attempt.
Matthews tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Matthews looks to land a combination but Jackson avoids it well.

Jackson rushes Matthews and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Jackson can't get the takedown.
Matthews lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Jackson backwards.
Jackson jumps guard but Matthews stands there with Jackson around his waist. Jackson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Jackson is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shane Jackson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Matthews ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Matthews no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Jackson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jackson throws a strike but Matthews rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Matthews slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Matthews is looking to take a break and control but Jackson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jackson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Matthews asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Matthews tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Matthews has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Matthews scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Jackson to see if he's OK.
Matthews has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Matthews in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Jackson takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Matthews thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Jackson wants to get back to his feet.
Matthews is looking to take a break and control but Jackson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Matthews cracks Jackson with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Matthews misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Jackson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Matthews on the ground.

Matthews lands a few punches from side control.


It looks like Shane Jackson has been cut.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The referee asks Matthews politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Matthews prefers to stall for the moment though.
Matthews creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jackson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Matthews tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Jackson tries to escape but Matthews is in control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Matthews dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Shane Jackson's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Matthews shoots in for a double leg but Jackson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Matthews fails to land the takedown.

Matthews manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Jackson on his heels. He'll look to pass Jackson's guard now, I'm sure.
Matthews passes Jackson's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Matthews uses his free foot to push down on Jackson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jackson.
Matthews scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Jackson?
Matthews is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Jackson can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Shane Jackson's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

Matthews is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jackson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jackson shrugs it off.

Jeez, Shane Jackson's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Shane Jackson's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Max Matthews!
A relieved looking Max Matthews thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
