PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rocky Granite (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dominic Rude (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Granite comes to the cage accompanied by Brokencyde - Get Crunk. Rude is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Gunslinger. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rocky Granite!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dominic Rude!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Russell Pearce and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rude closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Granite quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Granite wants to control but Rude passes into side.
Rude controlling the position from side mount.
Granite tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rude wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Granite is trying to control Rude's posture but Rude avoids it.
Rude looking to control but instead Granite has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

Granite tries to get to full guard but Rude has control of the leg.
Granite trying to control from the bottom.
Rude wants to free his trapped foot but Granite is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rude throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Granite was covering up waiting for the punch and Rude finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Granite wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rude throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Granite works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Rude wants to get up but he can't break Granite's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Rude fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
A jab from Rude misses.

Rude closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Granite is doing well to control the position and prevent Rude from advancing to side control.
Granite is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Granite is staying active underneath Rude, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Rude wants to pass the guard but Granite is defending well.
Rude is thwarting Granite's attempts to control the position.

and Granite counters with a three punch combo that has Rude backing up. Rude nods at Granite to acknowledge the strikes.

Granite is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rude sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rude shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Granite but Granite pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Granite throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rude's waist but Rude gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Granite off to one side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Nice straight punches there by Granite. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Granite.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rude in particular looking to stall.
Rude is trying to control the action in half guard but Granite is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dominic Rude was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Rude throws out a leg kick but Granite moves out of range and Rude only half commits.
That kick from Rude tenderised Granite's leg. Granite is trying to keep his angry face on.
Rude thuds his right hand into Granite's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Dominic Rude seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rude misses with a body punch
and Granite counters with a series of strikes. Rude will be more careful next time no doubt.
Rude is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.

Granite moves forwards but Rude connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Granite shoots in for a takedown but Rude shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rude with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Granite to score with a decent uppercut.

Rude seems a little lost for a moment, as Granite dominates the positioning.

Granite creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Rude sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Rude, as that shot connected.
Rude cracks Granite with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Rocky Granite is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rude is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Well Rude has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
