PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Neely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and K.J. Choi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). J. Choi. Choi has chosen PSY - Gangnam Style as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Neely!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, K.J. Choi!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Neely takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Neely throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Choi stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Choi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Choi takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Neely tries for a takedown but Choi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Choi connects with the punch.


It looks like Jack Neely has been cut.
Neely throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Choi slips a straight right by Neely.
A left lands for Choi.
A big right from Neely misses.
Choi has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Choi there as he acknowledges the shot.
Choi takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Neely throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jack Neely seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Some bone on bone action there as Neely checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Choi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Choi wants it to stay on the feet.
Choi misses with an attempted mid kick.
Neely fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Choi checks it well.
Choi moves out of range of the strikes.
Choi takes a swing at Neely's ribcage but misses.
Neely throws a leg kick but Choi sees it coming and checks it nicely.

and Choi counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Neely. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Neely fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Neely avoids the head kick by Choi.
Neely misses with a straight left.
Neely tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Choi swivels and escapes.
Choi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Choi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Neely.
The fighters circling - Neely throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
No joy there for Choi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Neely throws the left hand but Choi avoids the punch easily.
K.J. Choi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Choi throws a head kick but Neely moves out of range.
Choi is looking to land body kicks.
Neely lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Neely thows a body shot but no joy.
A solid leg kick lands there for Choi.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Choi scores with a jab to the body.
Neely is breathing heavily.
Neely takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A cross from Choi lands.
Choi throws a head kick but Neely moves out of range.
Neely misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Neely walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.


Jack Neely's cut is getting worse.
Choi lands a nice looking kick to the body. Neely takes a step back to recover.
Neely throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Neely fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Neely. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Neely fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Choi to the ground. Neely is now in Choi's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Neely stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Choi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Choi pulls Neely in to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Neely pushing down on Choi's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Neely sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Choi defending well though.
Neely wants to control but Choi is keeping him busy.

Neely throws a strike but Choi avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Neely throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Neely trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Neely is working hard here to advance position.
Neely trying to control but Choi is working from the bottom.
Choi controls Neely momentarily but Neely frees himself.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Choi lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Choi takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Choi lands a jab to Neely's midsection.
Neely scores with a nice body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

K.J. Choi dominated that round.

Choi stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Neely.
Choi takes a swing at Neely's ribcage but misses.
Choi connects with a single shot there.
A cross from Choi lands.
Choi scores with a head kick. Neely tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.


Jack Neely's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Neely misses with a body shot.
Neely tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Choi swivels and escapes.
Neely fails to land the takedown.
Choi changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
K.J. Choi seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Jeez, Jack Neely's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
Choi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Choi fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Neely.

Neely walks into a stiff left hand from Choi.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Jack Neely's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). K.J. Choi!
K.J. Choi decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
