PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mikko Sakkinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ramstein Rommel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sakkinen comes into the arena with Rotten Sound - Burden blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rommel tries to land a front kick but Sakkinen steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Sakkinen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rommel will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sakkinen misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rommel moves out of range as Sakkinen strikes.
Rommel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sakkinen looks for the body kick but Rommel saw that one coming.

Sakkinen is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Rommel shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sakkinen pinned against the cage. Sakkinen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Sakkinen takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Mikko Sakkinen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ramstein Rommel.
Rommel avoids the head kick by Sakkinen.

Rommel shoots in looking for a takedown but Sakkinen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rommel's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sakkinen moves forwards but Rommel connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Rommel shoots in for a double leg but Sakkinen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mikko Sakkinen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Rommel checks a leg kick.
Sakkinen is looking to wear down Rommel with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Rommel tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sakkinen swivels and escapes.
Rommel is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Sakkinen had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Rommel displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sakkinen throws out the jab.

Sakkinen is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Rommel's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Some bone on bone action there as Sakkinen checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Rommel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Sakkinen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Sakkinen.

Sakkinen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rommel steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sakkinen.
Mikko Sakkinen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rommel misses with a few strikes there.
Rommel lands a right hook to the body.

Sakkinen moves into range and clinches up with Rommel.
Sakkinen looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Sakkinen manages to break the clinch.
Rommel throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Sakkinen connects with a body shot.

Rommel fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rommel lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Sakkinen works Rommel's body with a nice hook.
Sakkinen lands a lovely overhand right.
Rommel tries to clinch there but Sakkinen circles away.

Sakkinen lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Rommel at a distance.

Rommel looks winded!
Rommel goes for a small jab and connects. Now Rommel goes in closer pressing the issue. Left hook, right straight! Sakkinen stumbles back but Rommel runs in with a huge uppercut knocking Sakkinen to the ground! What a finish! You have to wonder if Sakkinen will ever be the same after a knockout like that.
