The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Gruber throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Black gets tackled into the cage by Gruber. Gruber maintains the clinch.

Black gets control of Gruber's arms and successfully pulls guard. Black will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Gruber works over Black with some ground and pound from guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Black is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Black shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gruber pinned against the cage. Gruber gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

A nice inside leg kick there by Gruber. That's going to slow Black down.

Hans Gruber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gruber fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Black has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gruber drops Black with a right and a left! Gruber comes rushing in but Black regains his composure and manages to keep Gruber in guard.

Gruber has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Black takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Black tries to clinch up but Gruber circles away and keeps his distance.

Big Black is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Gruber closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Black to the mat! Black manages to get full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Black is on top in guard.
Gruber controls Black momentarily but Black frees himself.

Hans Gruber has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Black drops his hands momentarily and Gruber takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Black throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gruber tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Black is in Gruber's guard.

Black has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gruber is proving hard to escape from.

Gruber is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Black tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Black is looking to take a break and control but Gruber is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Gruber's face as Black controls the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Let's hope that Black has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Big Black hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
