PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Igor Vhossen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kimito Karuto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Igor Vhossen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kimito Karuto!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karuto changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Vhossen tries to avoid it but Karuto manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Vhossen to the ground. Vhossen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Vhossen shoots in looking for a takedown. Karuto tries to sprawl out of it but Vhossen keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Karuto manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Vhossen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Karuto circles away.
Vhossen tries a head kick but it misses.
Vhossen dives in and grabs Karuto's left leg, looking for a takedown. Karuto pushes down on Vhossen's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Igor Vhossen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vhossen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Karuto but Karuto pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Vhossen looks to land a body kick but Karuto moved away.
Vhossen throws a head kick but Karuto moves out of range.

Karuto dives in and scores a takedown into Vhossen's guard.
Karuto is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Karuto throwing strikes from guard but Vhossen blocks nicely.
Vhossen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Karuto is controlling him.
Karuto working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Karuto decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Vhossen, up you get!

Vhossen is breathing heavily.
Vhossen throws a sloppy head kick and Karuto moves out of range easily.

Karuto shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Karuto postures up in Vhossen's guard and throws a big left but Vhossen blocks it.

Karuto stands up from Vhossen's guard - Karuto perhaps looking for a knockout.

Horrible takedown by Karuto or perhaps it was just good defense by Vhossen which made him look bad.
Nice sprawl there from Vhossen as Karuto shoots in.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Karuto slaps away a takedown attempt from Vhossen, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Karuto postures up in Vhossen's guard and throws a big left but Vhossen blocks it.

Karuto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Kimito Karuto has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Karuto rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Vhossen moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Karuto shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Vhossen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Karuto stands and steps away. Vhossen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Karuto looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Vhossen!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Karuto wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Vhossen, who protects the arm well.
Vhossen seems a little lost for a moment, as Karuto dominates the positioning.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Karuto's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Karuto has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Karuto advances nicely into full mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Karuto looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vhossen is fending him off so far but Karuto persists. Nope, Vhossen circles away and we're back to standing.

Karuto clinches.

Karuto has clasped his hands together around Vhossen's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Karuto is looking to take a break and control but Vhossen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Vhossen is working to avoid the ground and pound but Karuto connects with a decent elbow.

Karuto stands up.
Vhossen misses with a takedown attempt - Karuto sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Vhossen shoots in for a takedown but Karuto shows good takedown defense.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Vhossen drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Karuto tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Vhossen is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Karuto changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Vhossen fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Karuto swats away the attempt to clinch by Vhossen.
Vhossen tries to clinch there but Karuto circles away.
Karuto dives in and grabs Vhossen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Vhossen pushes down on Karuto's head and hops out.
Karuto shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Vhossen but Vhossen pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Vhossen will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

and Vhossen makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Karuto closes the distance and clinches up with Vhossen, looking for a takedown. Karuto pushes Vhossen against the cage but Vhossen circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Karuto shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Vhossen's guard.

Karuto working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Vhossen's head.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vhossen is trying to control the position but Karuto postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Karuto chips away with some ground and pound.
Vhossen can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Karuto controls the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kimito Karuto showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Karuto fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Vhossen shoots for a double leg takedown but Karuto sprawls well. He's pushed Vhossen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Vhossen stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Vhossen wants it to stay on the feet.

Karuto closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Karuto is taking a breather. Vhossen says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Karuto is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Kimito Karuto has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Karuto in particular looking to stall.

Vhossen is looking to get back to full guard here but Karuto has managed to pass to side control instead.
Karuto happy to just control the position for now.
Vhossen on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Vhossen is trying to improve his position.
Vhossen prevents Karuto from improving position.
Vhossen takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Karuto decides to stand back up. Karuto steps back and let's Vhossen get back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Karuto thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Karuto postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Karuto is in close to Vhossen's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Karuto is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Igor Vhossen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kimito Karuto.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karuto cracks Vhossen with a solid left hand.
Vhossen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Karuto postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Karuto is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Karuto keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Vhossen's head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Karuto connects with a couple of short punches.
Karuto distracts Vhossen with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Kimito Karuto comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Karuto has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
