Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hans Gruber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hans Gruber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Brian Johnson!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gruber shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Johnson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gruber looking for a guillotine here but Johnson defends easily.
Gruber looking to control.
Gruber looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gruber is on top in guard.

Gruber drops back looking for a leg! Johnson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Johnson manages to kick Gruber off! Gruber jumps back into Johnson's guard.

Johnson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Gruber trying to control but Johnson is working from the bottom.

Johnson is looking for a triangle but Gruber pushes his legs off easily.
Gruber trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Gruber pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Johnson is keeping the position for now.
Johnson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gruber accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gruber got a little sloppy there for a moment and Johnson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gruber has managed to get both his arms back between Johnson's legs - danger averted.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Johnson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gruber slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Johnson sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Gruber seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Gruber is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gruber winds up and cracks Johnson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Johnson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Johnson wants it to stay on the feet.
Gruber lands a jab to the head.
Gruber feints a jab promting Johnson to slip. Gruber then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Johnson slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Johnson slaps away a takedown attempt from Gruber, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Gruber is looking to land body kicks.
Hans Gruber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gruber has his takedown stuffed

and Johnson counters with a shoot takedown. Gruber fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hans Gruber. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gruber has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Gruber has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gruber is on top in guard.

Johnson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gruber defends it easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Johnson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gruber defends well.
Johnson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gruber controls the pace.

That was a close second round but I would say that Hans Gruber will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Gruber is trying hard to land a takedown here. Johnson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Gruber fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

and Gruber counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Gruber lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Gruber.

Gruber is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Johnson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Gruber is looking to take a break and control but Johnson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Johnson pushes Gruber away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Gruber gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Johnson is trying to stick to Gruber's back but Gruber is turning into Johnson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Johnson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gruber.

Johnson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gruber doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gruber manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well Gruber has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
