The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson throws a sloppy body shot

and Fitzgerald counters with a nice double leg into side control. Thompson won't be happy with that.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Thompson tries to buck Fitzgerald off but Fitzgerald is having none of it.

Fitzgerald wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Thompson, who protects the arm well.

Fitzgerald working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Thompson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Fitzgerald off and has taken his back!
Fitzgerald is trying to break free.

Thompson is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Fitzgerald is defending well though. Thompson let's go of the attempt for now.

Fitzgerald tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Fitzgerald tries to improve his position but Thompson has taken his back! Thompson has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Fitzgerald tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Thompson pushes Fitzgerald away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
