PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Josh Lloyed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyron Woodley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tyron Woodley told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Josh Lloyed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tyron Woodley!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Albert Achterberg and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woodley tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lloyed is defended easily by Woodley.
Lloyed throws a combination. Woodley tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
A thudding body kick lands there by Lloyed!
Lloyed misses with a double jab.
Lloyed on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Lloyed lands a nice looking kick to the body. Woodley takes a step back to recover.
Woodley swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Lloyed misses with a wild body shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Woodley looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Lloyed throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Lloyed jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Woodley tries to clinch but Lloyed moves out of range.

Lloyed connects with a leg kick. Woodley looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Lloyed connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Lloyed throws a head kick that misses.
Woodley looks for the body kick but Lloyed saw that one coming.
Lloyed is looking to land body kicks.
Woodley tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lloyed swivels and escapes.
Lloyed tries to work over Woodley's front leg with a kick but Woodley checks it.
Woodley misses with a hook.

Woodley shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Woodley showed some decent athleticism there.
Lloyed has hold of Woodley's hands but Woodley slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Lloyed holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Woodley is just content to waste time from the top position. Lloyed takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Woodley throws a big elbow that misses.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Lloyed slips a jab and a cross from Woodley.
Woodley scores with a decent looking hook.
Woodley throws a right and a left that Lloyed avoids nicely.
Woodley fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Josh Lloyed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lloyed throws a head kick but Woodley moves out of range.
An inside leg kick lands from Lloyed.

Lloyed throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Lloyed throws a right hand that Woodley ducks under and follows up with a left that Woodley also avoids with ease.
Lloyed scores with a punch to the head.
Woodley throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Lloyed sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Lloyed displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Woodley throws out the jab.

Woodley shoots in for a takedown but Lloyed shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Woodley throws a right hand that Lloyed ducks under and follows up with a left that Lloyed also avoids with ease.
Woodley swings for the body but Lloyed moves out of range.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lloyed throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Woodley's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Woodley throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Lloyed sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Lloyed lands with a kick to the temple. Woodley shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Lloyed throws a head kick that half lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Lloyed dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Woodley feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Lloyed is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Lloyed looking for a sweep. Not yet Lloyed, not yet.
Woodley sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lloyed's guard.
Woodley missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Woodley takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Lloyed is trying to get back to full guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Josh Lloyed wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Woodley blocks a head kick by Lloyed.
Lloyed lands a head kick!
Lloyed takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Lloyed ducks under a wild hook from Woodley.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Lloyed checks a leg kick.
Woodley misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Woodley fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Woodley fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lloyed manages to avoid it.

A cross from Lloyed lands.
Lloyed scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Lloyed throws a head kick that half lands.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Woodley drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Lloyed is looking for a sweep.
Woodley working the ground and pound but Lloyed is defending the strikes.
Woodley lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Lloyed down.
Lloyed tries to bench press Woodley off him but Woodley keeps the position.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Woodley works to advance to full mount. Lloyed defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Tyron Woodley has got the better of the ground game so far.
Woodley throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Lloyed is looking to get to half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Woodley tries to control but Lloyed wriggling away.
Lloyed wants to control but Woodley is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tyron Woodley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

A clash of legs there as Woodley blocks the low kick.
A nice inside leg kick there by Lloyed. That's going to slow Woodley down.
Woodley scores with a sloppy right hand. Lloyed should have avoided that one.

Woodley has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Lloyed finds it's way round the side to connect with Woodley's head.

Woodley sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Woodley tries to bum rush Lloyed with a series of wild strikes but Lloyed uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Woodley throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lloyed.
Lloyed throws a one two combo.
A looping hook to the body misses from Lloyed. Woodley does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lloyed lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Lloyed throws a right hand that Woodley ducks under and follows up with a left that Woodley also avoids with ease.

Woodley tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Woodley is looking to clinch but Lloyed is avoiding it.

Woodley darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Lloyed is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Woodley is trying to control the action in half guard but Lloyed is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Tyron Woodley hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Lloyed throws a head kick that half lands.
Woodley has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Lloyed.
Lloyed avoids a punch combination nicely.
No joy there for Lloyed, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Lloyed feints and then cracks Woodley's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Woodley down.
Woodley throws a right and a left that both miss.
Lloyed scores with the left hand. Woodley knows he should have avoided that one.
Woodley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lloyed tries to avoid it but Woodley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lloyed to the ground. Lloyed escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Lloyed avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Lloyed throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Lloyed dips to his left and cracks Woodley with an uppercut!
Woodley throws a series of punches but Lloyed avoids them all with ease.
Lloyed has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Lloyed misses with a head kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lloyed throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Woodley darts in looking for a takedown but Lloyed gets double underhooks and turns Woodley into the ropes.
Lloyed is working Woodley over against the ropes.
Woodley tries for a takedown but Lloyed manages to get underhooks.
Josh Lloyed has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tyron Woodley.
Woodley takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Woodley wants a takedown.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Lloyed scores with a shot to the side of Woodley's head.

Woodley gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Woodley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lloyed swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Josh Lloyed.
I think Lloyed has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
