PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bawit Daba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julian Knight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daba comes to the cage accompanied by Kid Rock - Bawitdaba. On his way into the cage it seems that Bawit Daba has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Bawit Daba seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Bawit Daba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Julian Knight!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Knight gets the takedown into side control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Daba is holding Knight down, trying to stall.
Knight working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Knight in side control, throwing shots but Daba defends.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Knight wants to lay and pray for a moment but Daba keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Knight misses with the ground and pound.
Daba is looking to regain half guard here but Knight keeps moving and retains side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sloppy strikes there by Knight.
Knight in side control, throwing shots but Daba defends.

Daba is trying to control Knight's posture but Knight avoids it.
Knight tries to score with some ground and pound. Daba controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Knight is staying tight to Daba's torso, preventing him from escaping.

You can see the frustration on Daba's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Daba is looking to regain half guard here but Knight keeps moving and retains side control.

Daba wants to control but Knight postures up.

Knight throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Knight thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Daba's head.
Knight is looking to take a break and control but Daba is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Daba tries to roll over but Knight keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Julian Knight dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Knight lands with a hook. Daba tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Daba misses with an uppercut.
Daba throws a nice inside leg kick.
Daba bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Knight's head backwards.
Knight looks to throw the jab but Daba is out of range.
Knight swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Daba throws a jab when Knight was well out of range.
A chopping leg kick lands by Knight.
Knight tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Daba was well out of range. Poor timing from Knight.
Daba thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Knight if he has to take too many more of those.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Knight drives through and clinches with Daba against the cage.
Daba misses with the head strike.
Daba swings wildly with an uppercut but Knight uses good head movement to avoid it.
Knight taking a breather.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Knight can't find room to land a body shot as Daba controls the action.
Knight is looking to control Daba's arms but Daba gets an underhook and turns him. Now Knight has his back to the cage.

Knight escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Daba throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Daba tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Knight is able to avoid easily.

Daba tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Daba is looking to land body kicks.

Knight fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Daba sprawls well initially but Knight persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Daba is not content to let Knight control the position.
Knight is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Knight wants to control but Daba is keeping him busy.
Knight looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Knight stalling away here and it's allowed Daba to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Knight passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Knight working the ground and pound.
Knight trying to control the position but Daba is working away.
Daba tries to bench press Knight off him but Knight keeps the position.

Knight taking a breather here.
Knight is looking to take a break and control but Daba is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Knight throws a strike aimed at the side of Daba's head but Daba avoids it well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Knight scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Daba to see if he's OK.
Daba tries to improve position but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Julian Knight showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Knight moves out of range of the strikes.
Daba fakes the leg kick and cracks Knight in the body.

Daba lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Daba connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Knight blocks a leg kick.
Knight lands with an uppercut that bounces Daba off the cage and back into range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Daba gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Knight to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Daba will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Daba pulls Knight in close to his closed guard and prevents Knight from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Knight looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Bawit Daba has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Daba lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Daba.

Knight is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Knight lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Daba throws a leg kick but Knight moved away.

Daba throws a front kick that sends Knight stumbling back into the cage.
Bawit Daba is winning the standup battle so far.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Daba throws a hook to the side of Knight's head but Knight sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A cross from Daba lands.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Knight, as that shot connected.
Daba throws a lazy right hand but Knight sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Knight connects with a leg kick. Daba looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Knight scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Knight throws a body punch but Daba moves out of range.
Bawit Daba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Knight takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Daba throws a low kick but Knight moves out of range easily.
Daba blocks a head kick by Knight.
Knight checks a low kick from Daba.
Knight goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Daba ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Daba cracks Knight with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Knight looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Daba finish him?


Knight is rocked!


It looks like Julian Knight has been cut.
Knight takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Knight is still on wobbly legs! Can Daba finish him?
Knight takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Daba is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Knight flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Knight is out cold! Daba holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Bawit Daba!
An out of breath Bawit Daba thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
