PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Greg Stan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taneli Hauki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hauki has chosen Kyuss - Green Machine as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Taneli Hauki has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Greg Stan's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Greg Stan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Taneli Hauki!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paulsen Ambrosius and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Stan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We've been hearing that Stan has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Stan landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Hauki is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Stan throws an elbow but Hauki slips to the side and avoids it well.

Stan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hauki, who protects the arm well.

Stan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Stan lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Stan is pressing down on Hauki's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hauki is holding on for now.
Stan working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Stan lands a nice short elbow.
Hauki wants to improve his position but Stan is controlling well.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Stan throws a strike but Hauki rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Stan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Stan is in close to Hauki's body, working some short punches and elbows.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Stan working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hauki's head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Stan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Hauki manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Stan manages to get himself to full guard.

Hauki must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Taneli Hauki was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Stan closes the distance and clinches up with Hauki, looking for a takedown. Stan pushes Hauki against the cage but Hauki circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hauki throws a jab when Stan was well out of range.
Stan lands a head shot.
Stan lands a slapping body shot.
Stan lands a body shot.
Stan ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Hauki uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Stan has time to react.
Hauki stuffs the takedown attempt from Stan. Stan gets slowly back to his feet.
Stan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greg Stan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Stan looks up at the clock and then as Hauki takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Stan smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Hauki tries to buck Stan off but Stan is having none of it.
Stan tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Greg Stan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Stan scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Hauki is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Stan can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Greg Stan!
An out of breath Greg Stan thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
