PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jorn Anthriel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Mayo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mayo has chosen Super Furry Animals - Golden Retriever as his entrance music. Chris Mayo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chris Mayo!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Edson Gomes and Leandro Rodrigues.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayo throws a right hand that misses
and Anthriel counters with a left to the body.
Mayo misses the jab.
Mayo throws a hook to the side of Anthriel's head but Anthriel sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Mayo drives through and clinches with Anthriel against the cage.
Anthriel goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Mayo trying to control the position but instead, Anthriel has worked for underhooks and has pushed Mayo into the cage.

Anthriel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Anthriel leaves Mayo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Mayo throws a lazy right hand but Anthriel sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Mayo stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Mayo moves to clinch but Anthriel breaks away
and Anthriel counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mayo throws a looping overhand right but Anthriel ducks down to avoid it.

Anthriel closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Anthriel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Anthriel takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Anthriel lands a nice hook to Mayo's body. Mayo takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

It looks like Anthriel has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Mayo tries to clinch but Anthriel moves out of range.

Mayo clinches up with Anthriel and pushes him back against the cage.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Mayo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Anthriel paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Anthriel is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
A decent looking cross lands there for Anthriel.
Mayo dives in for a single leg takedown but Anthriel sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Jorn Anthriel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Mayo.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthriel lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Mayo falls backwards - clearly groggy! Anthriel dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!
