The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Styles has closed the distance and engaged Lavigne in a clinch.

Lavigne turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Lavigne manages to end up in side control.
Styles parries the strikes from Lavigne easily there. Lavigne is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Styles to escape.
Lavigne wants to stand but Styles has his arm trapped.

Lavigne drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lavigne jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Styles shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Lavigne makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lavigne.

Styles postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lavigne is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Styles, into his guard.
