PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diego Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Engine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Engine has chosen Crazy train as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diego Russell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Thomas Engine!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Engine will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Engine has managed to clinch.
Engine is looking to break free of the clinch but Russell has double underhooks.
Russell prevents the takedown attempt.
Russell tries for a takedown. No joy.

Engine's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've been informed that Engine has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Russell closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Engine to the mat! Engine manages to get full guard.
Russell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Engine swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Russell lands a couple of digs.
Engine is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Russell is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Russell thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Russell working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Engine can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Russell controls the pace.
Russell in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Russell distracts Engine with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Russell pushing down on Engine's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Russell is looking for a kimura here.
Russell frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Russell working Engine over with strikes here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Russell is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Engine can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Russell landing punches.
Russell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

BOOM! Russell connects with a massive shot to the dome!


Engine is rocked!
Russell controlling the pace for now.

Russell throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Engine has his hands clasped together but Russell breaks the hold and Engine is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Russell!
