Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Slyker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Slyker comes into a darkened arena with his song building. It's Amazing by Kanye West kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 23 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cain Slyker!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Russell Pearce and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rogers connects with a nice looking jab.


It looks like Cain Slyker has been cut.

Rogers throws a right hand that Slyker ducks under and follows up with a left that Slyker also avoids with ease.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Slyker is defended easily by Rogers.

Rogers defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Slyker.
Rogers fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rogers misses with a wild combination.
Rogers rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Slyker moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Rogers showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Slyker.
Slyker shoots in for a double leg but Rogers sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Steve Rogers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cain Slyker.

Slyker throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rogers's waist but Rogers gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Slyker off to one side.

Rogers has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Slyker working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Slyker is looking to work some ground and pound but Rogers has wrist control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Slyker closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rogers quickly recovers to half guard.

Rogers manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Slyker will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Rogers has closed the distance and engaged Slyker in a clinch.

Rogers displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Slyker.
Rogers rushes Slyker with punches - Slyker moves straight backwards instead of circling and gets clipped by the second strike... and the third... and the fourth! Oh, Slyker goes down! Rogers follows up with more strikes and the ref steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Steve Rogers!
