PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Max Mardigan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kayaki Chonin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chonin has chosen The End is Near as his entrance music. Kayaki Chonin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Felipe Paraventi and Emerson Jorge.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mardigan looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Chonin wants to get back to his feet.
Mardigan wants to control but Chonin is keeping him busy.

Mardigan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Chonin is just riding it out for now. Mardigan eventually gives up the hold.
Mardigan lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mardigan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Chonin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
It looks like Mardigan is going to stand back up.
Mardigan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Chonin is controlling Mardigan's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Mardigan is pressing down on Chonin's thigh, looking to free his foot. Chonin is holding on for now.
Chonin wants to control but Mardigan is keeping busy.
Chonin gets back to full guard.
Chonin wants to sweep but no luck.

Chonin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mardigan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mardigan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Chonin wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Mardigan is now in half guard.
Still in half guard, Mardigan seems content to control.
Mardigan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chonin on the ground.
Chonin is trying to get back to full guard.

Mardigan looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Mardigan is stalling here. Chonin is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Mardigan seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Chonin has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Chonin trying to control the action but Mardigan is working from the bottom.
Chonin wants to stand but Mardigan is controlling his arm.
Mardigan is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Chonin is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chonin jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Mardigan is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Mardigan and Chonin has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mardigan is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Chonin has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Chonin wants to control but Mardigan is keeping him busy.

Mardigan is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Chonin's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Mardigan is looking to escape.
Mardigan is breathing heavily.
Mardigan wants to control but Chonin is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Mardigan tries to get to full guard but Chonin has control of the leg.
Chonin passes into side control, despite Mardigan's attempt to control the position.

Chonin tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Mardigan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mardigan is trying to control Chonin's posture but Chonin avoids it.

Mardigan is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mardigan is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Mardigan trying his best to control but Chonin has mounted him.

Chonin working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Mardigan looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Chonin! Submission of the night perhaps?
