Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, The Nightmare!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Katsu Laoka!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laoka takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Nightmare throws a low kick but Laoka avoids it.
Nightmare has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Pros ya knows in the buildup to the fight.
A clash of legs there as Laoka blocks the low kick.
Nightmare lands a jab.
Some bone on bone action there as Laoka checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Nightmare swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The Nightmare seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Laoka throws a hook but Nightmare blocks it.
We've been informed that Laoka has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

This has been an exciting period of action!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Nightmare is trying to control. Laoka wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Laoka can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nightmare drops back, looking for a kneebar! Laoka looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Laoka looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Laoka!
Nightmare tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Nightmare is in all sorts of trouble here.

Nightmare sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Nightmare is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Nightmare is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Laoka is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nightmare is pushing down on Laoka's leg trying to pass to half guard. Laoka is fighting to maintain full guard but Nightmare has managed to sneak the leg through.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Laoka has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Nightmare.

Laoka loads up on a big right hand but Nightmare slips the punch.
Laoka lands the left hand.

A solid leg kick lands there for Nightmare.
The Nightmare is winning the standup battle so far.
Nightmare throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Laoka checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Nightmare throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Nightmare seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Laoka does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Nightmare is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Laoka is just riding it out for now. Nightmare eventually gives up the hold.

Nightmare in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Laoka tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Nightmare!
