PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Delmar Robbins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Andrews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kevin Andrews told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Delmar Robbins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kevin Andrews!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Eddie Farnsworth and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Andrews throws a leg kick

and Robbins decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Andrews's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Andrews is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Andrews wants to stand and escape but Robbins is having none of it.
Andrews is trying to keep Robbins in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Andrews tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Robbins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Andrews on the ground.

Andrews is looking for a triangle but Robbins pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Robbins wants to get up but he can't break Andrews's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Robbins with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Robbins is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Robbins wants to stand and escape but instead Andrews has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Andrews wants to get up but he can't break Robbins's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Andrews is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Andrews stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Robbins swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Andrews's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Robbins wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Andrews is now in half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Kevin Andrews hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Andrews shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Andrews was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Robbins is looking to reverse the position.
Andrews wants to control but Robbins is keeping him busy.

Andrews lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Andrews gets to mount! Robbins was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Andrews can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Robbins is looking to escape.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Andrews throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Robbins was covering up waiting for the punch and Andrews finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Robbins wants to sweep here but Andrews controlling him for the moment.
Robbins is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Andrews is controlling him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Robbins enables Andrews to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Robbins manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Andrews feints and as Robbins raises his hands in defense, Andrews changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Andrews has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Robbins is proving hard to escape from.

Well Andrews has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
