PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rocky McColgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barry Robertson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Robertson has chosen Marvelous Me as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Barry Robertson!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robertson blocks a head kick by McColgan.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Robertson drops back, looking for a kneebar! McColgan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. McColgan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from McColgan!

McColgan throws a good cross that connects.
No luck for Robertson with that takedown attempt.
McColgan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Robertson moves away.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Robertson crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from McColgan - the referee stops the clock and Robertson gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says McColgan. Robertson manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Rocky McColgan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Robertson takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
McColgan throws a lazy right hand but Robertson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
McColgan ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Horrible takedown by Robertson or perhaps it was just good defense by McColgan which made him look bad.

McColgan thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Robertson if he has to take too many more of those.

McColgan is doing well to control the position and prevent Robertson from advancing to side control.

McColgan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Robertson is just riding it out for now. McColgan eventually gives up the hold.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McColgan sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rocky McColgan.
I think McColgan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
