PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tony Kazarian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Genki Dama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kazarian kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Limp Bizkit - My Way. Genki Dama has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Tony Kazarian's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Tony Kazarian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Genki Dama!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dama tries a low kick but Kazarian avoids it.
Dama chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Kazarian has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Steel Penn Icon Training Grounds in the buildup to the fight.
Dama lands with an overhand left.
Kazarian shoots in for a double leg but Dama sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Dama tries a head kick but it misses.
Dama buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Dama throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Genki Dama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dama misses with a kick to the body.
Kazarian throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dama's waist but Dama gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kazarian off to one side.

Dama gets a clinch.

Kazarian pulls Dama into guard.
Dama controlling from the top position.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kazarian holds on and takes a little breather.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Genki Dama was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Dama tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kazarian swats him away and circles back towards the center.

A head kick by Kazarian misses
and Kazarian takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Nice uppercut lands for Dama. That snapped Kazarian's head back.
Kazarian lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Dama shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kazarian manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Dama wants to pass the guard but Kazarian is keeping the position.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Dama working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Dama is stalling in the full guard.
Kazarian looking for a sweep. Not yet Kazarian, not yet.

Kazarian manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dama manages to get himself to full guard.
Kazarian slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kazarian throwing strikes from guard but Dama blocks nicely.
Dama tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dama is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Dama misses with a head shot. Kazarian uses the momentum to regain guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dama accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Dama throws a big right hand that misses.
Dama wants to control from the top but Kazarian keeps moving.
Kazarian is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Dama sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dama lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Genki Dama dominated that round.
That's time! Kazarian's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kazarian slaps away a takedown attempt from Dama, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Dama misses with a leg kick.
A telegraphed right hand from Dama misses the target.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kazarian.
Kazarian takes a swing at Dama's ribcage but misses.
Dama feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kazarians jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Kazarian is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dama's half guard.
Dama on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Dama is looking for a sweep. Kazarian is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kazarian lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Dama slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Dama has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kazarian can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Dama avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Kazarian looking to sit in guard and control but Dama gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Kazarian keeping moving, preventing Dama from controlling successfully.

Kazarian working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Dama has passed into half guard!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dama in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Dama wants to control but Kazarian is keeping him busy.

Kazarian is looking to reverse the position.
Dama scores with a couple of short elbows.
Kazarian takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Dama laying and praying for a moment but Kazarian takes advantage and regains half guard.
Dama sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kazarian defending well though.

Kazarian is trying to control but Dama manages to pass to mount!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Genki Dama showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Kazarian tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dama defends well and Kazarian ends up having to push Dama into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Dama swings wildly with an uppercut but Kazarian uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kazarian has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Dama after a bit of a struggle.
Kazarian tries to pull guard but Dama forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Kazarian. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kazarian is trying to break free.
Kazarian fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Kazarian has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Dama after a bit of a struggle.
Kazarian is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Kazarian tries to pull guard but Dama forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Dama tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Kazarian avoids it.
Kazarian tries for a takedown. No joy.
Kazarian is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Dama to keep the fight standing.
Dama lands with a right to the head.
Kazarian has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Dama avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Kazarian drops down looking for an ankle pick but Dama pulls his leg out and moves away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dama throws a hook to the side of Kazarian's head but Kazarian sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Dama throws a series of punches but Kazarian moves out of range.
Dama throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Kazarian counters with a nice uppercut.

Dama fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kazarian to the ground. Dama is now in Kazarian's guard.

Dama is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Kazarian pulls Dama in to control the position.
Dama controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Dama working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kazarian keeping moving, preventing Dama from controlling successfully.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Genki Dama hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Kazarian throws a series of punches but Dama moves out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dama throws a hook but Kazarian avoids it easily.
Dama scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kazarian doesn't seem bothered though.
Kazarian fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Dama wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Dama turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Dama lands with a straight right. Kazarian didn't see that one coming.
Dama plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Dama loads up on a big right hand but Kazarian slips the punch.
Tony Kazarian has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Kazarian misses with a wild body shot.
Dama throws a nice inside leg kick.
Genki Dama is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Dama takes a swing at Kazarian's ribcage but misses.
Kazarian takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Genki Dama seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Dama pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kazarian takes one to the side of the head.
Dama cracks a nice hook into Kazarian's ribs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dama fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kazarian shoots in but no luck this time.
Dama connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

And that's the end of the fight!
Genki Dama comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dama has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
