Shimabukuro has chosen Warrior as his entrance music. Young Gu could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Masaru Shimabukuro's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gu avoids the head kick by Shimabukuro.
Shimabukuro uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gu.
Nice uppercut lands for Gu. That snapped Shimabukuro's head back.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Shimabukuro, right into the meat.
Gu throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Gu attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Masaru Shimabukuro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shimabukuro scoring well with a low kick there.
Shimabukuro slips a straight right by Gu.
Shimabukuro tries to land a front kick but Gu steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Shimabukuro looks to score with a jab to the body but Gu is just out of range.
Gu shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Gu uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Shimabukuro.
Gu fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Shimabukuro lands a nice shot that snaps Gu's head back.
Shimabukuro looks to land a body kick but Gu moved away.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Shimabukuro tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gu was well out of range. Poor timing from Shimabukuro.
Shimabukuro uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Nice uppercut lands for Gu. That snapped Shimabukuro's head back.

Gu gets a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gu scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Gu wants to work for an arm triangle but Shimabukuro is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Shimabukuro tries to get to full guard but Gu has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gu frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Shimabukuro really wants to buck Gu off and get back to his feet.
Gu scoring with strikes but Shimabukuro is staying in there.
Gu lands a heavy elbow.

Shimabukuro has left one of his arms exposed and Gu doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Shimabukuro screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

A less than humble Young Gu misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
The defeated Masaru Shimabukuro had this to say: 'Don't know what to say. I'm not gonna make any excuses, tonight he was just better than me. But believe me, i WILL be back.'.
