The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

De Leeuw has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jones is working away from the top position though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
De Leeuw pulls Jones in close to his closed guard and prevents Jones from doing any damage or advancing position.
De Leeuw is looking to stand up but Jones isn't so interested in that idea.

Jones is looking to work some ground and pound but De Leeuw has wrist control.
Jones prevents De Leeuw from getting back to his feet.
Jones throws a strike but De Leeuw rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
De Leeuw lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Jones at a distance.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
De Leeuw connects with a leg kick. Jones looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

De Leeuw ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jones moves away.

De Leeuw connects with a body shot that sends Jones's belly button to the back.
De Leeuw fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Jones on the side of the head.

De Leeuw moves into range and connects with a jab.
Jones takes a shot right to the bread basket.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jones takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but De Leeuw shows good takedown defense.
Jones goes for a double leg but De Leeuw avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as De Leeuw continues to drive forward.
