PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dean Corll (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Fleming (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Corll might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to South Texas Death Ride. The crowd seem to be enjoying Fleming's choice of entrance music: T.N.T.. Dean Corll has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dean Corll!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Fleming!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Bruno Lombardi and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Corll throws a front kick that sends Fleming stumbling back into the cage.
Fleming throws a right hand that Corll ducks under and follows up with a left that Corll also avoids with ease.
Fleming dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Corll throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Fleming.

Fleming rushes Corll and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Fleming obliges.
Corll wants to get back to striking at distance but Fleming won't allow it.
Fleming has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Corll is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Corll has had enough of the clinch but Fleming keeps him there for the moment.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Fleming has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Corll pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Corll turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Corll walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Fleming checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Corll.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fleming ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Corll moves away.
Fleming takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Fleming uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Corll.
Corll moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
A slapping leg kick lands for Corll.
Scott Fleming seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Corll is looking to slow Fleming down with leg kicks.
Corll tried to score with a low kick but Fleming checks it.
Corll cracks a nice hook into Fleming's ribs.
Corll has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Void Training Facility - PIT Inc. in the buildup to the fight.
Fleming keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Corll is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Fleming.

Corll tries to keep at a distance but Fleming has taken the fight into the clinch.

Fleming is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Corll can't fight it off and eventually Fleming manages to take the fight to the floor. Corll looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Corll is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fleming chips away with some ground and pound.
Fleming showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Fleming is looking to work some ground and pound but Corll has wrist control.

Fleming keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Corll's head.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Fleming's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fleming wants to control from the top but Corll keeps moving.
Fleming has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Fleming won't allow Corll to sweep him here.

Fleming postures up and lands a big shot to Corll's brow.

Corll pulls Fleming in close to his closed guard and prevents Fleming from doing any damage or advancing position.
Corll has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dean Corll wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Corll pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Fleming scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Corll connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Fleming momentarily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fleming fails with a takedown attempt.
Corll rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Fleming moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Fleming swings for the body but Corll moves out of range.
Corll wants to land a leg kick but Fleming is out of range.
Fleming is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Corll rather than just go for the knockout.
Fleming fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Corll has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

and Corll counters with a body kick.
Fleming steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Corll. That one must have hurt.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Fleming is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Corll avoids the body shot from Fleming.
Corll misses with a leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Scott Fleming will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Corll takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Corll moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Fleming feints and then cracks Corll's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Corll down.
Corll throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Fleming throws a body kick that misses.
Fleming misses with a body shot.
Corll throws a lazy head kick
and Fleming makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Corll throws a jab when Fleming was well out of range.

Fleming shoots in but no luck this time.
A nice inside leg kick there by Fleming. That's going to slow Corll down.
Corll throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Fleming walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Corll throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Corll throws a wild body kick that Fleming sees coming a mile off.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Fleming shoots in looking for a takedown but Corll manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Fleming's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Dean Corll has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Fleming.
Corll feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Fleming's calf.
Corll throws a sloppy head kick and Fleming moves out of range easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Fleming showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Fleming takes a swing at Corll's ribcage but misses.
Fleming moves out of range of the body kick from Corll.
Corll thows a body shot but no joy.
Corll tries to work over Fleming's front leg with a kick but Fleming checks it.

Fleming takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Corll lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Fleming moves into range and clinches up with Corll.
Corll looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Fleming tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Corll avoids it.
Corll wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Fleming has him pressed against the cage.

Corll has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Dean Corll has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Dean Corll wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Fleming shoots for a double leg takedown but Corll sprawls well. He's pushed Fleming's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Fleming throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Fleming turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Fleming manages to end up in side control.
Corll manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fleming looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Corll manages to get to full guard.
Fleming trying to control the position from guard on top but Corll is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fleming is pushing down on Corll's leg trying to pass to half guard. Corll is fighting to maintain full guard but Fleming has managed to sneak the leg through.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dean Corll.
I think Fleming has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
