PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cesar James The Reaper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joaquim Antunes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cesar James The Reaper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joaquim Antunes!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, David Schapiro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Antunes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but The Reaper avoids it really well and circles away.
The Reaper scores with a crisp jab that stopped Antunes in his tracks.
Antunes tries to score a power double leg takedown but The Reaper sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Antunes somewhat.
Antunes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? The Reaper is fending him off so far but Antunes persists. Nope, The Reaper circles away and we're back to standing.
Antunes's coach down at immortals was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Antunes's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Cesar James The Reaper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joaquim Antunes.
The Reaper throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Antunes.
Antunes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. The Reaper tries to avoid it but Antunes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag The Reaper to the ground. The Reaper escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Antunes doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling The Reaper to counter with a crisp jab.
The Reaper looks to land a left hand but Antunes moved out of range nicely.

The Reaper misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Antunes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says The Reaper as he avoids it easily.

Antunes closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The Reaper manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Antunes looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Antunes is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Antunes lands with a punch from half guard.
Antunes wants to take a breather but The Reaper is having none of it.
Antunes throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Antunes prevents The Reaper from standing back up.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Antunes connects with a nice short shot to The Reaper's temple.

Antunes is nestled in close to The Reaper, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Antunes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but The Reaper does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Antunes is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The Reaper on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if The Reaper tries to get out of the position.
The Reaper tries to kick Antunes off but Antunes keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Antunes winds up and cracks The Reaper with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Antunes has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Antunes connects with a couple of good shots from mount.


The Reaper is rocked!


It looks like Cesar James The Reaper has been cut.
Antunes fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Oh The Reaper is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Antunes lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Antunes lands a big shot to the head and The Reaper winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Joaquim Antunes!
