Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Akins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marco Macotti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Akins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marco Macotti!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Akins.
Akins tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Macotti manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Macotti shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Macotti sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Macotti chips away with some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Macotti is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Akins is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Akins has escaped and now he's on top!

Akins wants to pass the guard but Macotti is keeping the position.

Macotti has his foot on Akins's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Akins works his way back into a safe position though.

Akins passes Macotti's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Macotti wants to improve his position but Akins is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Akins wants to free his trapped foot but Macotti is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Akins in particular looking to stall.

Akins is trying to control the action in half guard but Macotti is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Akins is looking for a kimura but Macotti is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Akins to get the leverage.
Akins could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Akins is looking to take a break and control but Macotti is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Akins looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Macotti moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Akins is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Steel Penn/Heavy Hands Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Akins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Macotti swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Macotti has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Akins is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Akins tries for a takedown but Macotti manages to get underhooks.

Macotti lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Macotti seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Akins's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Akins scores with a sloppy right hand. Macotti should have avoided that one.

Akins drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Macotti dives on top into guard.

Macotti is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Macotti working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Akins's head.

Macotti drops back, looking for a kneebar! Akins looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Akins looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Akins!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Akins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Macotti swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Our spies down at at Brick Brawlers MMA (13 Coaches) inform us that Macotti has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Akins tries to clinch up but Macotti circles away and keeps his distance.

Macotti shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Macotti showed some decent athleticism there.

Macotti thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Akins's head.
Macotti looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Akins with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Macotti wants to lay and pray for a moment but Akins keeps working.
Akins is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Macotti jumps into side control!

Macotti goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Akins has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Macotti but great work by Akins.

Akins defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Macotti's arms.

Macotti is looking for the choke from the back position but Akins is controlling his hands well.
Akins tries to roll but Macotti sticks to his back.

Macotti has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Akins has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
