The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Gruber.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ruben Yvel.

Gruber misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Yvel moves out of range as Gruber strikes.
Gruber tries to clinch but Yvel is having none of it.
Yvel fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gruber has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Gruber's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

and Yvel counters with a solid body kick.
Gruber lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Yvel throws a leg kick which misses Gruber's front leg but catches the back leg as Gruber tries to avoid it.
Yvel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A combination from Yvel does no damage.

Yvel feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
