The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bates dives in and scores a takedown into Lyng's guard.

Bates slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

I really don't envy Lyng right now.
Lyng is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Bates creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lyng.

Bates tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lyng swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bates shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lyng pinned against the cage. Lyng gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Bates throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lyng's waist but Lyng gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bates off to one side.
