PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Chase (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hank Young (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Chase!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hank Young!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Young shoots in for a takedown but Chase shows good takedown defense.
Chase shoots for a double leg takedown but Young sprawls well. He's pushed Chase's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Chase fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Young, pushing him back against the cage.
Young is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Chase pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Young changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Chase fights it off and pushes away nicely.
John Chase has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hank Young.
Young dives in and grabs Chase's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chase pushes down on Young's head and hops out.
Chase dives in for a single leg takedown but Young sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Chase stalling.
Young stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Chase pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Young is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Chase gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Chase breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Young throws a body kick that misses.
Young leaves Chase with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Young tries to clinch there but Chase circles away.
Young fails with the takedown.

Chase takes the fight into the clinch.
Young misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Chase really is a fat lump.

Young is looking to take this one to the mat.
Young is trying to pull guard but Chase has him pressed against the cage.
Young drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Young drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Chase gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Chase keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Young's efforts to push away.

Chase has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Young uses from the top position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Chase has his foot on Young's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Young works his way back into a safe position though.

Chase has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Young uses from the top position.

Young slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Young has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Chase is proving hard to escape from.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Hank Young.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Young.
Chase chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Young can pounce on him.
Young shoots for a takedown but Chase saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chase shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Young as he jumps to the side.
Chase circles away from the clinch attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that John Chase will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Young is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Chase is defending well for now.

Young wants to stand but Chase has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Young avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Young shoots in for a double leg but Chase sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Young fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Chase might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Chase looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Chase not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chase manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Young is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Chase will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Chase drives through and clinches with Young against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Young - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Chase is looking for a takedown.
Young goes for a takedown in the clinch but Chase prevents it.
Chase jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Young walks away with a smile on his face. Chase gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
John Chase is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Young slaps away a takedown attempt from Chase, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Chase. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Young tries to clinch but Chase is having none of it.

Chase keeps the fight on the outside.
Chase shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Young displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Chase.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Young looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Chase has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Young is working away from the top position though.

Young is still trying to improve position.
Young wants to stand but Chase has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Chase has hold of Young's hands but Young slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Young might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Chase haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Chase wants to control but Young passes into side.

Chase is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Hank Young has got the better of the ground game so far.
Chase is looking for a sweep.
Chase is working hard here to advance position.
Young wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chase keeps working.
Young tries to move to mount but Chase blocks the move with his legs.

Chase sneaks back into half guard.
Chase is trying to control but can't.
It looks like Young is going to stand back up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Young in particular looking to stall.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Hank Young comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Chase has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
