PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad The Bomb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Bates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brad The Bomb!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bates looks for a takedown but The Bomb sprawls well.
The Bomb swinging wildly here.
The Bomb shoots in for a double leg but Bates sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
The Bomb fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by The Bomb or perhaps it was just good defense by Bates which made him look bad.
Dave Bates has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brad The Bomb.
Bates slaps away a takedown attempt from The Bomb, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bates.
The Bomb fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bates is trying hard to land a takedown here. The Bomb sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Bates tried to score with a low kick but The Bomb checks it.
The Bomb tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bates defends well and The Bomb ends up having to push Bates into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

The Bomb turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

You can see the frustration on Bates's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The Bomb thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Bates is looking to regain half guard here but The Bomb keeps moving and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bates manages to work his way to half guard, despite The Bomb's best efforts.
Bates is looking to improve his position.
The Bomb is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Bates looks like he's trying to stand up.
The Bomb is trying to control the action in half guard but Bates is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The Bomb is working for a kimura but Bates is defending it quite comfortably.
The Bomb seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bates does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Bates might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bates pushes The Bomb off looking to stand but The Bomb dives back in and keeps control.
Bates moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Brad The Bomb.

Bates tries to sprawl but The Bomb drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Bates is looking for a sweep. The Bomb is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Bates wants to improve his position but The Bomb is controlling well.
The Bomb wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bates keeps working.

Bates misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Bates is refusing to be controlled, as The Bomb sits in half guard.

Brad The Bomb has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

The Bomb closes the distance and clinches.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Bates pulls guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The Bomb sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The Bomb trying to control but Bates is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brad The Bomb dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


The Bomb shoots for a double leg takedown but Bates sprawls well. He's pushed The Bomb's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The Bomb avoids the head kick by Bates.
The Bomb closes the distance and clinches up with Bates, looking for a takedown. The Bomb pushes Bates against the cage but Bates circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Bates gets caught flat footed, as The Bomb shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The Bomb stops Bates from standing up.
Bates manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The Bomb tries to lock up and control but Bates gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The Bomb is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Bates is staying active.

The Bomb manages to regain half guard. Good work.
The Bomb is looking to control Bates's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can The Bomb avoid being mounted?
The Bomb tries to roll over but Bates keeps him under control.
The Bomb makes his way to full guard. A much better position for The Bomb.
The Bomb is breathing heavily.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as The Bomb holds on and takes a little breather.

Bates stands up from The Bomb's guard - Bates perhaps looking for a knockout.

Bates pushes The Bomb up against the cage in a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bates is looking to break free of the clinch but The Bomb has double underhooks.
Bates is pressed up against the cage. The Bomb has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Bates down to the mat. Bates avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Dave Bates has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brad The Bomb.
The Bomb shoots in for a takedown but Bates shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Horrible takedown by Bates or perhaps it was just good defense by The Bomb which made him look bad.
Brad The Bomb seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The Bomb misses with a takedown attempt - Bates sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bates shoots in for a takedown but The Bomb shows good takedown defense.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bates gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The Bomb tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bates smiles and moves away.

The Bomb avoids the head kick by Bates.
Bates misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The Bomb tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bates defends well and The Bomb ends up having to push Bates into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Bates is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

The Bomb ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. The Bomb no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The Bomb throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Bates manages to pass to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Brad The Bomb will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The Bomb drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

You can see the frustration on Bates's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The Bomb goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Bates has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for The Bomb but great work by Bates.
Brad The Bomb has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bates just content to control the position.
The Bomb takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The Bomb tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Bates presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

The Bomb tries to hold on but Bates pushes him away.

Bates stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
The Bomb tries for a takedown but Bates sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
No luck for The Bomb with that takedown attempt.

Bates looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Bates is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Brad The Bomb hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
The Bomb dives in for a single leg takedown but Bates sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Bates wants to break the clinch but can't.

Bates pulls guard.
The Bomb is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The Bomb wants to control from the top but Bates keeps moving.
Bates being controlled here, momentarily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dave Bates.
I think The Bomb has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
