Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Abdul Benson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michal Materla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michal Materla told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Abdul Benson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Michal Materla!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Materla drives through with a takedown into guard.
Materla controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Materla has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Benson is proving hard to escape from.
Benson manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Benson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Materla is trying to keep Benson in close.
Materla had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Benson defends it easily.

Benson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Materla is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Materla wants to stand up but Benson is controlling him.

Benson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Abdul Benson wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Materla shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Benson as he jumps to the side.

Materla fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Benson wants to take a breather but Materla is having none of it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Materla is concentrating on defense, preventing Benson from advancing position.
Benson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Materla keeps working.

Benson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Materla does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Abdul Benson has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Benson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Materla's half guard.
Materla looks winded!
Materla wants to control but Benson is keeping busy.
Benson is looking to take a break and control but Materla is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Benson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Materla defends it well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Materla is defending against the submission attempts here by Benson.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Abdul Benson will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Benson gets a double leg takedown into Materla's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Materla pulls Benson in to control the position.
Materla is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Benson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Benson looking to sit in guard and control but Materla gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Materla wants to control from the top but Benson keeps moving.

Materla lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Materla sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Benson's guard.
Michal Materla has got the better of the ground game so far.
Materla trying to control from Benson's half guard. Benson has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Materla trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Materla wants to get up but he can't break Benson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Benson wants to stand and escape but Materla is having none of it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Materla accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Materla trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Materla slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Materla creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Materla thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Materla is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Benson sneaks back into half guard.

Benson is refusing to be controlled, as Materla sits in half guard.
Materla thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Materla wants to pass the guard but Benson is defending well.
Materla is looking for a kimura here.
Materla thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Benson's head.

Materla passes to full mount!

Benson tries to hold on but Materla pushes him away.

Oh Benson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Materla has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
A big strike lands for Materla! That's really hurt Benson and he's turned his back - Materla keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Materla jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
