Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marshall Mathers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mathers comes to the cage accompanied by Square Dance. Davis is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Amazing Grace by The Celtic Woman. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis fails to land with a series of punches.

Antonio Davis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mathers fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Davis on the side of the head.
Mathers ducks right into an uppercut from Davis.
Mathers lands a nice looking body kick.
Davis scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mathers feints and then cracks Davis's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Davis down.

Davis with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Mathers to score with a decent uppercut.

Mathers connects with a crisp jab.
Mathers throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Davis's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Mathers dives in looking to finish as Davis flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Mathers's strikes! Mathers is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Davis's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Davis was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
