PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ludwig Manres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dick Valentine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Manres might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Aqualung - Jethro Tull. Valentine has chosen I Buy the Drugs as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ludwig Manres!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dick Valentine!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Aafke Stam and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valentine fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Manres manages to avoid it.
Valentine misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Valentine tries to clinch there but Manres circles away.
Valentine slaps away a takedown attempt from Manres, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Valentine misses the body punch
and Manres counters with a good low kick that Valentine was not able to check.
Valentine connects with a looping right hand.
Valentine throws a head kick but Manres moves out of range.
We've been hearing reports that Manres has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Manres shoots in for a double leg but Valentine sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Manres darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Valentine is staying active underneath Manres, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Manres unloads with some shots from mount but Valentine bucks and avoids them well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Manres throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Valentine because Manres loaded up on that one.
BOOM! Manres connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Valentine tries to lock up and control but Manres gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Manres goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Valentine is on top in guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Valentine decides to return to a standing position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Valentine throws a right hand that Manres ducks under and follows up with a left that Manres also avoids with ease.

Valentine takes the fight into the clinch.

Valentine has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.

Valentine throws a looping overhand right but Manres ducks down to avoid it.
Manres takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Valentine connects with a body shot.
Manres shoots for a double leg takedown but Valentine sprawls well. He's pushed Manres's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Manres counters with a single leg into guard. Valentine didn't expect that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Valentine is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Valentine looks to land a combination but Manres avoids it well.

Valentine leaves Manres with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Valentine cracks Manres with an open hand slap.
Valentine connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Manres throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Valentine's waist but Valentine gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Manres off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ludwig Manres. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dick Valentine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Manres, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
