PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Andy Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Gomes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Andy Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Carlos Gomes!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling eachother endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.
Gomes dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Gomes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gomes lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Gomes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gomes stuffs the takedown attempt from Burns. Burns gets slowly back to his feet.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Burns tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gomes swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andy Burns. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Burns walks into a straight right hand from Gomes.
Carlos Gomes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Burns shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gomes defends it nicely.
Gomes punishes Burns's body with a nice straight punch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burns shoots in for a takedown but Gomes shows good takedown defense.
Burns misses with a takedown attempt - Gomes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Burns tries for a takedown but Gomes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gomes misses with a jab, cross combination.
Burns fails with the takedown

and Gomes counters with a shoot takedown. Burns fights it but they end up in guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Burns escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gomes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Gomes dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Burns with a poor takedown

and Gomes counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Burns trying to get back to full guard but Gomes takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Burns is trying desperately to improve position.
Burns slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Burns slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Burns looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Burns is looking for a triangle but Gomes pushes his legs off easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Burns looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gomes wants to get up but he can't break Burns's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Burns working for a triangle but Gomes defends it easily.

Burns looking for subs off his back but Gomes has passed one foot through into half guard.
Burns is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gomes's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gomes's back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gomes showing good submission defense here.
Gomes looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.

Burns is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Gomes has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Burns has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Gomes taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Burns doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Andy Burns!
