PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Efren Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aldo is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Dati-Sam Conception. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jose Aldo!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Daniel Blasius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Charles pushes Aldo up against the cage in a clinch.

Aldo has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Charles clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Aldo's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Aldo is not going to allow Charles to sit and survive in this position.

Charles is trying to shake Aldo off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Aldo won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Charles shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Aldo as he jumps to the side.
Aldo tries to clinch but Charles is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Charles shoots in looking for a takedown. Aldo tries to sprawl out of it but Charles keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Aldo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Charles avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Nice takedown defense from Charles. No joy for Aldo on that attempt.

Charles stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Charles wants it to stay on the feet.

and Charles cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Charles lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Aldo is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Charles wants to take a breather but Aldo is having none of it.

Charles is stalling here. Aldo is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Charles seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Aldo has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Charles's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Aldo has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Charles!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Aldo lands a nice short elbow.
Charles tries to get to full guard but Aldo has control of the leg.
Aldo is thwarting Charles's attempts to control the position.
Charles is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Aldo stops Charles from getting back to his feet.

Charles is refusing to be controlled, as Aldo sits in half guard.
Charles wants to control but Aldo passes into side.
Jose Aldo has got the better of the ground game so far.
Aldo content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Efren Charles will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Aldo closes the distance and clinches up with Charles, looking for a takedown. Aldo pushes Charles against the cage but Charles circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Aldo misses with a takedown attempt - Charles sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Aldo stuffs the takedown attempt from Charles. Charles gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Efren Charles. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Horrible takedown by Aldo or perhaps it was just good defense by Charles which made him look bad.
Aldo tries to clinch up but Charles circles away and keeps his distance.

Charles tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Aldo has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Aldo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Charles has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Aldo's lack of action.

Aldo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Charles wants to control but Aldo is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Aldo stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Aldo scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Charles pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Aldo looks for a takedown but Charles sprawls well.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jose Aldo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Aldo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
