PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Baraka Simengwa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wooden Pencil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Simengwa comes to the ring accompanied by Afande Sele feat Ditto - Darubini kali. Pencil is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Full Retard. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Baraka Simengwa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wooden Pencil!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simengwa will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Simengwa blocks a low kick nicely.
Simengwa moves in looking to clinch but Pencil pushes him off.
Simengwa doesn't manage to clinch there - Pencil circles away.
Simengwa moves forwards but Pencil connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Baraka Simengwa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Simengwa has managed to clinch.
Pencil has a couple of punches blocked by Simengwa.

Pencil breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Pencil dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Simengwa. That did some damage!

Simengwa is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

We've been hearing good reports from Simengwa's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Pencil has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Simengwa is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Simengwa tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pencil swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Baraka Simengwa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pencil lands a nice hook to Simengwa's body. Simengwa takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Pencil tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Simengwa tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Pencil swivels and escapes.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Simengwa has his foot on Pencil's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pencil works his way back into a safe position though.

Pencil got a little sloppy there for a moment and Simengwa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pencil has managed to get both his arms back between Simengwa's legs - danger averted.

Pencil wants to get up but he can't break Simengwa's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Simengwa had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pencil defends it easily.

Simengwa isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Pencil stacks Simengwa on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Pencil!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pencil wants to stand but Simengwa is controlling his arm.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wooden Pencil showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Baraka Simengwa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Simengwa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Simengwa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

You get the feeling that Pencil really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Simengwa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pencil is looking to escape.
Simengwa seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Pencil is holding on tight.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Pencil is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Wooden Pencil is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Pencil is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Simengwa trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Pencil really wants to buck Simengwa off and get back to his feet.

Pencil bucks up and throws Simengwa to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Simengwa is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Simengwa jumps guard but Pencil stands there with Simengwa around his waist. Simengwa gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Baraka Simengwa. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pencil wants to stand but Simengwa is controlling his arm.
You can see the frustration on Simengwa's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Simengwa looking for a sweep but Pencil has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Baraka Simengwa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pencil wants to get back to his feet but Simengwa is holding on tight.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Baraka Simengwa.
I think Pencil has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
