The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Hirohito Nitta and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmidt shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dela Cruz is trying to defend but Schmidt finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Dela Cruz is looking to escape.
Schmidt looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Dela Cruz wants to control but Schmidt is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Dela Cruz tries to roll over but Schmidt keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schmidt wants to stand up but Dela Cruz is controlling the position.
Schmidt content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Schmidt wants to pass the guard but Dela Cruz is defending well.

Dela Cruz is staying active underneath Schmidt, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Bryce Schmidt just wasn't active enough.
Schmidt shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dela Cruz pinned against the cage. Dela Cruz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Dela Cruz swats away the attempt to clinch by Schmidt.
Dela Cruz throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Schmidt.
Dela Cruz looks winded!
Dela Cruz defending well as Schmidt loads up on a big left hand.
Schmidt forces Dela Cruz back against the cage and clinches.
Dela Cruz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Dela Cruz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Schmidt looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dela Cruz is fending him off so far but Schmidt persists. Nope, Dela Cruz circles away and we're back to standing.
Dela Cruz tries to clinch but Schmidt moves out of range.
Dela Cruz shoots in for a double leg but Schmidt sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Schmidt scores with a takedown into Dela Cruz's guard.
Schmidt slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dela Cruz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Schmidt drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Schmidt seems to have locked his on tight now - Dela Cruz screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Schmidt, as he picks up the win!
