PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cleveland Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zydrunov Rumonav (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cleveland Cox looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 13 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cleveland Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zydrunov Rumonav!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rumonav shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cox defends it nicely.

Rumonav drives through with a takedown into Cox's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Rumonav controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Rumonav drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rumonav jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rumonav trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rumonav wanted to stand there but Cox had control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rumonav throws an elbow that misses. Cox uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rumonav's guard. Nice move by Cox!

Rumonav is trying to control the position but Cox postures up.

Rumonav uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Cox blocks a head kick by Rumonav.
Cox avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Cox could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Rumonav throws a low kick but it's checked well by Cox.

Nice takedown defense from Cox. No joy for Rumonav on that attempt.

Rumonav gets a double leg takedown into Cox's guard.
Cox wants to sweep here but Rumonav controlling him for the moment.
Rumonav engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Rumonav wants to pass the guard but Cox is keeping the position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rumonav is looking to stand up but Cox isn't so interested in that idea.

Rumonav has Cox pulled in close to control his posture.
Cox trying to control the position from guard on top but Rumonav is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rumonav is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Rumonav looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cox is one step ahead there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rumonav throws a head kick that misses.

Rumonav bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Rumonav tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cox tries to improve position but can't.

Rumonav wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cox, who protects the arm well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zydrunov Rumonav dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Cox enables Rumonav to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cox manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Rumonav stands and steps away. Cox gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Rumonav looks for the body kick but Cox saw that one coming.
Rumonav takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Rumonav ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cox moves away.

Rumonav drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rumonav is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Let's hope that Rumonav has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Rumonav controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Zydrunov Rumonav has got the better of the ground game so far.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Zydrunov Rumonav has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Rumonav closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cox to the mat! Cox manages to get full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Zydrunov Rumonav wasn't active enough on the ground.

Cox gets caught flat footed, as Rumonav shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Rumonav is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cox knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Cox might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Cox fails with the takedown.
A head kick misses from Rumonav.
Rumonav goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Rumonav tries to clinch but Cox is having none of it.
Cox keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rumonav misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Rumonav shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cox is trying to defend but Rumonav finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Zydrunov Rumonav showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Cox tries to clinch up but Rumonav circles away and keeps his distance.

Cox gets caught napping as Rumonav dives in and scores a takedown. Cox manages to retain guard.
Cox can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rumonav controls the pace.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Rumonav darts in and clinches Cox up against the cage.
Rumonav has Cox pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Cox manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Rumonav is trying to pull guard but Cox has him pressed against the cage.
Cleveland Cox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zydrunov Rumonav.

Rumonav jumps into guard, dragging Cox to the mat.
Cox throws a big elbow that misses.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rumonav can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rumonav looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Cox has picked Rumonav up and slammed him! Rumonav can't keep hold of the triangle and Cox manages to pass to side control!
Rumonav is looking to reverse the position.

Rumonav explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Cox dives in and grabs Rumonav's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rumonav pushes down on Cox's head and hops out.
Cox blocks the body kick.
Rumonav misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cox.
Rumonav shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cox but Cox pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Cox swats away the attempt to clinch by Rumonav.

Rumonav manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Cox on his heels. He'll look to pass Cox's guard now, I'm sure.

Rumonav stands up from Cox's guard - Rumonav perhaps looking for a knockout.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rumonav throws a low kick, looking for Cox's leg but Cox calmly moves out of range.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cleveland Cox has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Zydrunov Rumonav is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Cox gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rumonav to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Zydrunov Rumonav comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rumonav has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
